This family friendly backyard features a hidden movie screen that is built into the arbor which leads to the vegetable garden. The existing deck was modified to add a fireplace, new railings, and an outdoor grill area with a serving counter and cabinet for storage. The new patio area connects the deck to the remainder of the yard and the seat wall is the perfect spot to watch a movie and enjoy a fire in their Solo Stove fire pit. Planters in the front yard line the new paver parking pad and frame the front entry. An access road to the back yard which extends through the lawn with a hidden lawn stabilizer system will connect to the future shop. We also addressed their drainage issues with a new dry stream to reroute water, hide their septic lids with various plantings, and added functionality with an extra outlet for the grill area.

After demo and removal, grading began and bases were laid for the patio, parking pad, and access road. The lawn stabilizer was installed, as well.

The Montana Flagstone pieces were placed for the patio and path and the drainage issues were addressed with the drystream. Boulders were placed on the outskirts of the drystream and galvanized steel trough planters were placed in the garden area.

After the patio and drystream were installed, the seat wall was started, plants were delivered and set, and lighting was installed.

A portion of the existing deck railing was removed and replaced with a built-in bench. A new deck landing was built to connect to the flagstone patio and make room for the grill counter, as well. The movie screen arbor and wire trellis’ were also constructed.

Meanwhile in the front, the trench drain was installed along the existing driveway to reroute water and the paver parking area was finished up. The decorative pots were placed along the front walkway, as well.

From demo & removal to final walkthrough, this installation took around 3 months to complete. Over the past 5 years, this garden has evolved and grown with this family and we’ve enjoyed coming back each year to refresh their containers and see how everything has filled in.
