What started out as a blank slate has been transformed into a lush escape from the world. The meandering paths lead you past a ponding weir water feature and then out to a raised garden bed area complete with multiple wood and metal trellis’s that frame the cedar green house. Past that there is a moon arbor that invites you to sit and relax on the hammock in the shade. On summer evenings the fire pit and seat wall are perfect for inviting friends over for s’mores. The meandering paths create a journey through the garden to explore the native plants, pollinator-friendly gardens, and gathering spaces.
When the owners contacted us, they had just moved in and were wanting to achieve several goals with their new outdoor space. They needed to reduce the noise from the nearby power lines, screen views from neighboring properties, address drainage issues, mask septic lids & utility areas, attract wildlife, and create usable space & garden rooms, all while being pet friendly.
After the site was cleared and initial grading was completed, the new fencing for the backyard was started along with the wood & metal trellises. Stone risers and boulders were placed and work on the water feature began, as well.
The meandering dry stream to help address drainage issues was carved out and the front flagstone path that connects to the back was also installed along with the crushed stone side yard paths. Construction continued on the trellises in the garden area with the addition of the raised planters and the water was turned on for the water feature.
The remainder of the crushed stone paths were installed and the front yard plants were set, planted, and irrigated. The seatwall and firepit were also starting to wrap up.
About 2 weeks after the front plants went in, all of the back plants got set. The moon arbor and light fixtures were also installed to complete the project.
This project was installed in 2022 and took approximately 2 months to install. The native and pollinator friendly plants attract all types of birds and wildlife to the garden throughout the year and mask both power line noise and views from neighboring properties. As the garden has grown in the past 4 years, we have loved getting to visit it each year!
