Pots and container gardens provide additional gardening space for both ornamental and edible plants. Making sure your pots are well watered and cared for will keep your plants looking their best throughout each season. As the weather heats up it’s especially important to make sure your containers get plenty of water each day.
Summer
- Be sure to monitor soil moisture as the weather warms. Soils in container plants dry out much faster than in a planting bed. In the hottest part of summer, you may need to water your pots more than once a day.
- If you are seeing die back on plants in your pots, take a look at your zone duration to make sure it’s running for the correct amount of time or include an extra hand watering time.
- Inspect drip lines regularly to make sure everything is functioning correctly.
- Deadhead flowers to encourage reblooming and prune plants to encourage new growth and keep plants tidy.
- Apply organic fertilizer regularly.
- Do deter slugs, snails, etc, apply Sluggo according to manufacture instructions. Best to do this after watering.
- You can rotate your containers to help plants grow on all sides but isn’t completely necessary.
Fall
